Nowadays with the huge onslaught of different brands of cameras that offer different size chips and different formats many people ask what is the best format to shoot in.

We have the cropped APS format, Full Frame and the Olympus 4/3’s format for starters and other commercial side high-end photographers are shooting in super high resolution digital medium format sizes.

APS size is normally found on mid-to low and digital cameras but many professionals including wedding photographers portrait photographers sports photographers and commercial photographers do the use APS format cameras like the Nikon D300, D90 or the cannon 40D, 50D or all the other famous brands offering APS sized cameras.

Full Frame seems to be the professionals choice and every year we see more and more full frame cameras available like the Nikon D3 and D700 and now older Canon 5D. Full frame makes the most sense it represents the same size image as 35mm film in a digital version. Larger viewfinders that are brighter and much more easier to use. The newer way of full frame cameras also offer outstanding lowlight shooting abilities never seen before on any cameras before them.

Each year all the different camera manufacturers bring forth their latest and greatest digital cameras for you the consumer to consider. And each year we see being or and bigger pixel counts on the new cameras. Do you really need more pixels for what you shoot we will discuss that in our next post.
